My kids have never had Halloween costumes. Zane couldn’t really wear a costume his first year because of his skin and overheating issues. Plus, at that time, I just didn’t see what the fuss was all about. Last year, we discussed costumes, but I didn’t want to dress Selah in a costume for her first Halloween, since Zane didn’t wear one for his. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve attended friends Halloween parties and all, we just didn’t dress for them.
Over the last few months, Brian and I have been discussing whether or not we should do costumes this year. After all, kids do love to dress up. And there are some very cute toddler costumes available. Of course, he told me it was up to me, so I started looking around.
After looking around online, I found this Bandstand Baby Costume, on Costume Discounters, that I thought would be adorable on Selah.
So, I asked to review it, and to my delight, they agreed. I ordered a Large (Fits Toddlers 2T-4T) because Selah was moving from an 18M to 24M size in clothes, and I wanted her to be able to wear it for dress up, too.
As soon as it came in, I had to try it on her.
Isn’t she the cutest little Bandstand Baby you ever saw?
The neck kerchief is a gauzy polka dotted thing that Selah would not let me tie correctly. SO, it looks like a bandana in the pictures.
The bodysuit is a velour type material and is incredibly soft. The “poodle skirt” has the same polka dot material that peeks out from the pink skirt. It is Uber Adorable. Selah kept pointing at the poodle going, “dog.”
Since Selah generally freezes when the temperature drops below 75, I think I will add a pair of black leotards or tights to the costume to complete it.
She literally threw a fit when I took the costume back off of her.
Costume Discounters guarantees that they will not be undersold. If you find the same costume cheaper elsewhere, they will match the price, plus take off an additional 20%. Plus, if you receive your order and determine you need a different size or don’t like the one you picked, they will exchange it free *see details on site.
Now we just have to find a costume for Zane. Any suggestions?

Zane had to have surgery on his eyes yesterday. More specifically, he had stints removed from his tear ducts. This was his seventh procedure on his tear ducts (multiple probings/flushings plus one set of stints placed and removed previously).
After his first set of stints had been out for only a few months, his tear ducts started to scar closed again because of the Hay Wells Syndrome. So, the surgeon chose to leave this set in for six months, instead of the standard three, in hopes of getting the tear ducts to scar open.
Since he’s a little older now, I was a bit nervous about how he would handle things at the hospital. Especially after the “No, I not” episode with the dentist. So, to be honest with you, I didn’t tell him until this morning that we were going to see the doctor. He sees several of his physicians at the hospital, so it didn’t seem strange to him that we should go there.
I waited until the nurse gave him his pre-op medication to tell him that the doctor was going to look at his eyes, and that they might hurt a little bit afterward. I told him that if his eyes were hurting, he needed to tell us.
The surgery took less than 20 minutes. The surgeon said that the stints came out without any difficulty, and he seemed hopeful that the tear ducts might stay open for a while this time.
He had problems with nausea and vomiting after the last two surgeries, so he had to have an IV this time with anti-nausea medicine.
We made it home without him throwing up in the van, which was a plus!
He spent the evening chilling out mostly. He did complain a couple of times that the light was hurting his eyes, so we dimmed them.
All in all, surgery went well, and we are hoping to avoid OR for at least six months, if not longer!
Thanks to all of you who knew ahead of time and prayed. We know that the Lord heard our prayers!

We received the United States of America Chalkboard Floor Puzzle from Crayola for review, and it was an instant hit.
Crayola Chalkboard Floor Puzzles are 2ft x 3ft in size. Each puzzle has 48 extra large pieces that have unique edges, such as stars and hearts, and even young kids can manipulate the pieces with a bit of help. The pieces are brightly colored and the finished puzzle is pretty cool. The puzzle comes with one piece of Crayola chalk that can be used to write on the puzzle. The puzzles wipe off easily with a dry cloth (I used a dusting cloth) or a chalkboard eraser.
The blue chalk that was provided with the puzzle didn’t show up real well on the blue colored states, but when we got different colors, they did.
Of course, since I stink at geography, I had to keep looking at the box to help Zane put it together.
Buy It… Two other designs, Space Zone and Playground Fun, are also available from the Lafayette Puzzle Factory. The puzzles are sold at retailers nationwide, including Toys R Us.

I have been a fan of VeggieTales since Big Idea had their big idea! Seriously, I love VeggieTales and can sing several silly songs from memory. I even hosted a VeggieTales marathon once, which you can read more about in my Thankful Thursday post. At one point, I owned all of the VeggieTales available on VHS. Yup, I said VHS. I gave my entire collection to my niece and nephew several years before I got married.
I’ve long known I wanted my kids to grow up with the VeggieTales, so I started trying to rebuild my collection. When I received an opportunity to work with Big Idea on reviews, I was ecstatic! You think Silly Songs are silly? You can’t begin to imagine my little happy dance!
For our first review with VeggieTales, we received the latest Sweetpea Beauty set including the Sweatpea Beauty DVD, Sweetpea’s Songs for Girls CD, and the 365 Bedtime Devo’s for Girls book. First, let me tell you about the DVD (I’ll tell you more about the CD and Devotional in a later post).
Mirror, mirror on the wall, who has the truest heart of all?
Once upon a time, there lived a royally sour blueberry, a fair rhubarb maiden and a dastardly deceptive mirror! Sweetpea Beauty knows that what’s on the inside is what matters most, but insecure Queen Blueberry can’t see past her own reflection! So, when a decree is handed down that only the most beautiful can rule the land, the Queen gets nervous and things turn ugly! Banished to the dark forest, Sweetpea’s fate seems bleak until a charming prince, a band of merry minstrels and seven snow peas come to the rescue! Will Sweetpea and her friends be able to warn the Queen in time to save her from the clutches of the tricky mirror – or will the crumbling kingdom and the Queen’s own heart be lost forever? Find out in this fairy “Veggie” tale about the real meaning of true beauty.
Plus, the almost-classic tale of . . .Snoodlerella.
A self- conscious Snoodlerella is the star of the ball after getting an extreme makeover. Her life of glamour is short-lived as the clock strikes midnight and her glasses, braces and insecurities return. Will she be able to see herself as the good King sees her—unique, beautiful and perfect just the way she is?
The DVD, Sweetpea Beauty, is yet another wonderful VeggieTales movie. Many young girls struggle with esteem issues, which is no small topic to tackle. The point of the story, in the words of Pa Grape, is that there are more important things than how you look on the outside.
My favorite line is when Sweetpea says, “It’s God who sees the beauty in everything… I just choose to agree with him.” Such wisdom from a rhubarb!
Check out the trailer here…
While the storyline is written for girls, I think that the topic of esteem, and finding the real meaning of true beauty, is one that boys and girls can learn from.
My kids are 18 months and 33 months. Not exactly the age at which they really understand esteem, beauty, etc. But, they can relate to and enjoy VeggieTales. Which will make discussing these issues much easier when the time comes. Granted, they are not able to sit through both Snoodlerella AND Sweatpea at once, but they do enjoy the movie and the songs.
Add this one to your Christmas list, folks, because every little girl you know needs to see the truth in this video.

I recently babysat a friends youngest daughter, “N,” all day, while she and her husband took their oldest daugher, “A,” to Six Flags. My kids love playing with both girls, so it is never a problem to keep them. The kids played outdoors for quite a while and had a great time. They played in the sand and water cart… in the jeep… and played ball…
Soon enough, though, they got bored. Z wanted to go for a bike ride. We have a double bike trailer that we use to take our two bike riding. However, the trailer is built for two, and I had three under my care.
Normally, I leave ALL things technical for Brian to handle. But, once Z started saying “bike ride” the other two started clamoring. They wanted to go, too.
So, I thought, how hard can this be? really?
I got out my bike and affixed the mounting bar with little difficulty. The only tools required were the two wrenches that were included in the box.
And attached the Child Bike Seat. The Child Bike Seat position can be adjusted to allow for more/less leg room for the child.
I put my two in the bike trailer, and put “N” in the bike seat.
And away we went and the kids had a blast!
Judging by the squeal of delight from “N,” she loved the fact that she could see where we were going. I loved the fact that, although not surrounded by the frame and mesh of a bike trailer, I still felt like “N” was protected because of the positioning of the seat and the adjustable three-point security harness. I’ve never been a fan of the child bike seats that place the child behind the rider, because you can’t see the child and cannot protect them should a bike accident occur. With the WeeRide, I didn’t have to worry about “N” dangling her feet into the tire or slipping out of the seat, because she was right between my arms.
After “N” went home, “Z” and “S” insisted on taking turns riding up front with Mommy. They both absolutely loved the WeeRide.
I would certainly recommend the WeeRide for any parent who wishes to instill an early love of bike riding in their child.

I have chronic back pain. Have had since at least 1996. At least, that’s as far back as I remember it. Because I worked as a nurse, anytime I would go to the doctor over back pain, they would presume that I had pulled something, give me some muscle relaxers and ibuprofen, and send me on my way. Until I moved to Chicago, that is. I knew that it was more than just a pulled muscle. So, when I saw a new physician and demanded answers. After an MRI, it was determined that I have degenerative disc disease, and should be on anti-arthritic medication. I was 24 at the time.
Fast forward ten years, three different anti-arthritic medications, and multiple epidural steroid injections for pain management…
Brian and I invested in a brand new mattress set when we got married, because we knew that having a good mattress would go a long way toward keeping my back healthy. Even still, with chronic back pain, it is often difficult to get comfortable enough to fall asleep, and when I do fall asleep, difficult to stay asleep.
So, when I received an opportunity to review a memory foam mattress topper from SleepJoy.com, I agreed with hopes that it would help my sleep habits.
We chose the 3” CoolTop because of the added air circulation benefit. During the winter, I freeze but because of all the blankets I pile on, Brian roasts. I’ve used foam mattress toppers in the past, and they were like an OVEN. So, the ventilation factor was key.
3″ CoolTop
For those who tend to overheat at night, The CoolTop is specially designed to add generous amounts of comfort and air circulation to your bed. Features a 3″ layer of memory foam peaks and valleys plus ventilation. Made with a hybrid of ViscoFresh Enhanced Memory Foam and high density latex to disburse pressure points and provide healthy support.
Luxurious 300tc cotton cover is filled with down like gel fiber and comes with a skirt to keep the topper secure.
Our exclusive ViscoFresh Latex Memory Foam offers five times more air circulation than original memory foams to reduce overheating. This revolutionary material is both hypo-allergenic and anti-microbial. It is made with plant based ingredients including green tea which eliminates foam odor and replaces it with a naturally fresh aroma.
Sizes: Twin, Twin Extra-Long, Full, Queen, King, California King
When the mattress topper came in, I unrolled it and placed it on the bed. It definitely had a faint scent of green tea, though it was not overpowering.
Because our current mattress is a pillow-top, I was concerned that the topper skirt would not fit correctly. I had no need to worry, though, because the skirt is deep and fit well over the mattress and could even be stretched to cover the box spring.
The cotton cover is contoured and thick.
It is wonderfully soft to the touch!
Once I got the bed remade with the CoolTop in place, I was excited to try it out.
But, Z beat me to it.
We’ve been sleeping on the SleepJoy for over a month now, and I have to say, it is absolutely wonderful. Because the foam topper relieves pressure points, I find that I can fall asleep much faster. And for the first time in years, I am actually able to sleep ON MY BACK. And whether it is because of the Sleep Joy itself, or a side benefit of improved sleep, my pain levels are improved. Which means I can do more. Which makes me happy.
Brian actually likes it, as well. We have both joked about our bed being the most comfortable place in the house.
I would certainly recommend the SleepJoy.com products to anyone looking to stretch the life of their mattress or improve their sleep habits.
We’ve both been sleeping like babies.
What sweet sleep!

The Little Looster is THE must have booster for the loo for those little legs don’t reach the floor.
About Little Looster…
Little Looster LLC is a Portland, OR based business. The Looster itself was conceived and designed by Monica Mylet, a mother of 3. She came up with the design and need after parenting 3 kids through the potty training process. Just about every aspect of the Looster’s life cycle from birth-of-concept to design and manufacturing was completed by Oregon based companies.
The Little Looster will provide your potty trainer with the three C’s important to success…
Comfort
Provides total comfort & leg support for years of use.
No more painful pins-n-needles feeling when little legs are not supported.
Confidence
Promotes complete certainty.
No scary feeling of “falling in.” Kids legs do all the work.
Cleanliness
Allows children to have their hands free at all times.
No need to grip the back of the toilet seat or the inner, germ covered rim.
We received the Little Looster for review, and LOVE it.
As you can see, the Little Looster is shaped like a “U” or horseshoe. It fits around the base of the toilet perfectly, and provides ample room for toddlers to climb onto and off of the toilet.
With it’s molded “cut-outs” it can remain in place even when adults have to use the bathroom.
In the kids bathroom, the toilet is in cramped quarters, with the vanity on one side and the tub on the other. The Little Looster fits perfectly and doesn’t have to be shuffled about to make room when the bathroom is being used by adults.
It has certainly helped increase confidence in our two. And Z loves the fact that it has a “tunnel” where he can hide his toys for later retrieval.
I love the fact that the Little Looster is mompreneur designed and manufactured in the USA.
The Little Looster retails for $39.99 and, in my opinion, is worth EVERY cent.
