My kids are napping, my husband is at work, and I just finished up the digital design proofs for my brother David’s wedding invitations. His fiancé, Missy, is thrilled and has tentatively chosen her favorite design. I have to get the printed proof ready for her to look at, to make sure she loves it as much when she is holding it.
I was sitting here thinking about all I have to be thankful for, and I thought about my mother-in-law, Barb. I am especially blessed to have in-laws that I not only love, but also like. Barb and Richard, my father-in-law, are two of the sweetest and most mild-mannered people on the planet.
They get along famously with my parents, and in fact, everyone in both of our families likes everyone else.
I remember that before I met Brian, I prayed routinely that I would like the family that I would one day marry into. I had friends that really detested their mothers-in-law. One friend complained that her mother-in-law never thought she did anything right and made a point to tell her about it. I didn’t want to go down that road (not that anyone wants to…), so I prayed that I would get along well with mine.
God is so faithful to His own!
Barb has never insulted me.
Barb has never yelled at me.
Barb has never belittled me.
Barb has never told me I was doing something the wrong way (even if she thought I was).
Barb has always included me in family discussions and treated me as an equal.
Our families have celebrated holidays together and even vacationed together. Yes, my parents and Brian’s parents, along with Brian and I, have vacationed together.
So, yes, I am very thankful for Barb.
And I am grateful that God gave me a mother-in-law that is so much better than I could ever have even thought to ask for.
Be blessed,
Virginia

P.S. Barb, if you’re reading this, I love you and think you ROCK as a mother-in-law!

What a truly sweet post. It’s nice to read such a nice things about MIL. I never met mine, but I have a feeling she would be just as lovely as yours.
That truly is a blessing. I’m divorced now, but when I was married, we lived next door to his parents. It was a nightmare. You are very lucky to have such a great relationship.
Thanks, Bibi and Janie. Yes, I am truly blessed. I wish everyone could have a MIL like mine.
Such a sweet tribute post.
