Wordless Wednesday #4

March 10th, 2010

I’m not certain if it is because she is second born, or if it is just her personality, but Selah is content to sit with the sun in her face, and watch while Zane plays.

Our daughter, Selah, has soft fine hair that is somewhat curly.  I have noticed recently that her curls are pretty much flattened by towel drying her hair after shampooing.  I wondered if, perhaps, the shampoo might be weighing it down, but didn’t think much beyond that.

Then on Monday, she had a tangle in her hair that literally took me twenty minutes to comb through, and that was WITH using detangler spray.  I decided it must be time to invest in new shampoo, as the old just was not working out.

I shopped around a little bit, and finally settled on Johnson’s No More Tangles shampoo plus conditioner for curly hair.

JOHNSON'S® NO MORE TANGLES® Shampoo + Conditioner

I used it for the first time this evening, and I have to tell you, I was very pleased.  The shampoo has a pleasant scent, lathers easily, rinses easily, and left Selah’s hair incredibly soft.  But the best part is, even after towel drying her hair, her little curls were springy and incredibly cute…

I am so glad I found this shampoo!  I just wish I had found it sooner.

What do you think?  What is your favorite kid-friendly hair care product?

Manic Monday

March 8th, 2010

Do you remember the 1980’s song by the Bangle’s, Manic Monday?

The lyric goes…

It’s just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday
‘Cause that’s my funday
My I don’t have to runday
It’s just another manic Monday

Well, today was our Manic Monday.

Zane had surgery on his tear ducts today. As I have mentioned in prior posts, Zane is affected by Hay Wells Syndrome of the Ectodermal Dysplasia (as am I).  The syndrome causes chronic inflammation in his eyes, and his tear ducts clog up.  He has had them probed and flushed four times, stints put in and stints removed.  Today’s surgery was to put new stints in.

Our surgeon told us ahead of time that there was a possibility that his tear ducts may have scarred closed.  The last time he had stints, the surgeon had a hard time placing them because the ducts were so tight.

We had asked many of our friends to pray that the surgeon would be able to get the stints in again.

We had to be AT the hospital by 5:45 a.m. Which meant we had to be up at 4:30 a.m.

We decided it would be easiest on everyone if we just took Selah with us as well.  Otherwise, we would have had to get up at 4 to drop her off at a sitter and still get to the hospital.  We made it out of the house and to the hospital on time with both kids in tow.

Here’s my little guy before his surgery.

And here he is shortly after we saw him in recovery.

Poor little guy. He has two black eyes.   Here his is at home, in Daddy’s lap.

Yes, it was a Manic Monday.  Early morning, long waits, cranky kids (did I mention Selah chose today to cut a molar?)…

However, Zane’s surgery was a success, praise God.  The surgeon came back and told us that it was even more difficult to place the stints this time, and that he had to make an incision in the right nostril to pull that stint all the way through.  He plans to leave the stints in longer this time, so hopefully we won’t have to do this so quickly after removal.

And for that, all I can say is thank you, Lord.  I am convinced that it was only by prayer, and the favor of the Lord, that the surgeon was able to get the stints in.

So, here’s hoping Tuesday is a little calmer!

Be blessed,

Virginia

Thankful Thursday # 1

March 4th, 2010

My kids are napping, my husband is at work, and I just finished up the digital design proofs for my brother David’s wedding invitations. His fiancé, Missy, is thrilled and has tentatively chosen her favorite design. I have to get the printed proof ready for her to look at, to make sure she loves it as much when she is holding it.

I was sitting here thinking about all I have to be thankful for, and I thought about my mother-in-law, Barb.  I am especially blessed to have in-laws that I not only love, but also like.  Barb and Richard, my father-in-law, are two of the sweetest and most mild-mannered people on the planet.

IMG_8017e2

They get along famously with my parents, and in fact, everyone in both of our families likes everyone else.

I remember that before I met Brian, I prayed routinely that I would like the family that I would one day marry into.  I had friends that really detested their mothers-in-law.  One friend complained that her mother-in-law never thought she did anything right and made a point to tell her about it.  I didn’t want to go down that road (not that anyone wants to…), so I prayed that I would get along well with mine.

God is so faithful to His own!

Barb has never insulted me.

Barb has never yelled at me.

Barb has never belittled me.

Barb has never told me I was doing something the wrong way (even if she thought I was).

Barb has always included me in family discussions and treated me as an equal.

Our families have celebrated holidays together and even vacationed together.  Yes, my parents and Brian’s parents, along with Brian and I, have vacationed together.

So, yes, I am very thankful for Barb.

And I am grateful that God gave me a mother-in-law that is so much better than I could ever have even thought to ask for.

Be blessed,

Virginia

P.S.  Barb, if you’re reading this, I love you and think you ROCK as a mother-in-law!
